People don't always know when it is urgent for them to see a doctor or to get a child, friend, or loved one to the doctor. They don't know whether to go to the emergency room or make an appointment with their primary care physician or a specialist. When are certain aches, pains, and lumps potentially life-threatening? When is it crucial to get to a doctor within the next few days, hours, or even minutes?

Early identification of disease saves lives and money, increases productivity and maintains quality of life for many people throughout the world. This prototype app, available for wide-spread adoption and utilization by everyone including the underserved, allows users to identify physical symptoms as dangerous warning signals and instructs users when to seek medical help.

For example, the CDC reports that during 2005-2008, among U.S. adults aged 20-64 years who had hypertension, 40% of uninsured adults had hypertension that was undiagnosed. Persistent hypertension is one of the risk factors for stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure and arterial aneurysm, is a leading cause of chronic kidney failure and the most important risk factor for death in industrialized countries.

With a chapter dedicated to maternal/child health before, during and after pregnancy, and another specific chapter focusing on children's health this section would be most helpful for all women of childbearing years.
