Inspiration

The themes draw inspiration from the era of the Opium Wars, exploring how human desire manifests—and how ultimately hollow it is. A traditional Chinese proverb is also referenced.

What it does

Human greed exists everywhere throughout one’s life, and the Red Dragon travels between this world and the next to restore balance. I was able to express this theme in the film.

How we built it

We built Red Dragon’s Roar by combining historical motifs with mythological symbolism, then bringing them to life using cutting-edge generative AI tools. Fast, dynamic dragon animations were created through iterative AI video generation

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was the Red Dragon’s rapid movements. Traditional animation techniques would have required extensive hand crafted frames, but even with AI, generating smooth, consistent motion demanded many trials. Maintaining visual continuity between AI-generated shots was also difficult, especially when switching angles or speeds. Balancing mythic imagery with historical references without losing emotional clarity was another challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we successfully visualized a complex theme. Bringing the Red Dragon to life with fluid, energetic motion felt like a major achievement. We also take pride in weaving together mythology, historical echoes, and modern AI technology into a unified artistic expression.

What we learned

Throughout the process, we learned how to use generative AI more strategically breaking down complex sequences into manageable segments, refining prompts for consistency, and integrating AI outputs with traditional editing. We also learned the importance of grounding fantastical imagery in emotional storytelling to create a resonant experience.

What's next for Red Dragon’s Roar

Next, I plan to expand this concept into a larger narrative arc that explores different eras of human desire and imbalance. I hope to develop additional AI film workflow, and eventually produce a longer film that deepens the philosophical themes introduced in Red Dragon’s Roar.
