Inspiration The project provides for effective and efficient plastic waste disposal and management system to solve the country's plastic waste crisis.

What it does

Nigeria generates some 32 million tonnes of waste per year, of which 2.5 million tonnes is plastic waste. The country’s disposal, recycling and waste management system is very inefficient, dealing with both plastic and non-plastic waste, most of which (70%) ends up in landfills, sewers, beaches and water bodies.

Plastic recycling sites/plants have not been effective in combating the menace.

How I built it

Challenges I ran into

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

A recycling platform (RECYCLR), with a website (www.recyclr.com.ng) and a mobile application that gets individuals and organisations to deposit plastic wastes and get rewarded for it. The website and mobile app is used to obtain the addresses of receptacles and collection points closest to the customer. Rewards are in the form of vouchers for data or airtime purchase, as well as for online shopping. Verification of deposit is done by scanning a QR code on each user's profile on the app. The equivalent of the voucher value appears on your virtual wallet Persons with the highest monthly deposits also qualify to get on the podium and get incentives.

What I learned

What's next for Recyclr

We plan to partner with the Lagos State Government, CocaCola, Nestlé and Total, as well as other corporate organizations who wish to lend support as their CSR.
