Recyclocity as with any project can be quite length/time consuming. Time management was definitely crucial in part as well as communication as a team. As a team, we all came to a consensus in terms of waste management being quite a major issue in terms of its threats towards the environment. It causes landfill to pile up which lead to further consumption of greenhouse gases and fuels the Global Warming train. Thus, we wanted our project to focus on spreading awareness to recycling to the world so that everyone is aware of the dangers of improper disposal and how everyone can chime in and help reduce the amount of waste in our landfills. As a group, although we wanted it to be educational, in order to make it interesting and fun as well as informative, we decided to create a game in which one can practice the knowledge of recycling they learned in our website, as well as have a fun time beating their high scores. We separated our website into 4 components, the main introductory page, how to play section for the game, more about recycling page for a more informative approach, and about us page for the people curious about the creators of this project.

About Recyclocity

Recyclocity is an online digital game to enrich minds about the power of recycling in resource management. There are just so many people that heard Recycling as a term but still dispose of all their trash in the trash bin and it's mainly due to one not understanding Recycling enough to appreciate how it can save our planet. For example, many have heard of recycling as a concept but fail to put it into practice, especially when it comes to distinguishing between what can be recycled and what can't. Many items that could have been recycled just end up being thrown away. However, it doesn't have to be like that. With this game, players will get to experience the world of recycling. From sorting to identifying recyclables from the trash, it will all be included in Recyclocity!

We built it using repl as our site to input code as well as ultilized languages such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

- Time Management

  • Team communication especially since we all live in different places and don't really know each other.
  • Certain bugs with code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learned new ways in formatting code to make the site look visually appealing to the eye and readable. Some of us started off knowing nothing about HTML and due to everyone's hard work, we ended up building a wonderful website with a game in it as well as developed knowledge in computer science overall.

We hope to participate in future Hackathons and coding projects!
