Recycling Counter

Inspiration

We were inspired by the idea of sustainability, and being able to help the planet. Seeing advocates and projects throughout the world attempt to prevent global warming and other issues, we wanted to create an impact too.

What it does

The idea of the Recycling Counter is that you get rewards when you make a positive impact, so people could aspire to be more eco-friendly. The Recycle Counter has a place for you to put in the amount of plastic that you recycled that day. You have a digital pet that evolves as you recycle more, inspiring more positivity and engagement with the idea of recycling.

Features

-You can track the total number of items you have recycled, and watch your digital pet evolve through 7 levels as you recycle more. The visual progress bar showing how far you are, giving you a positive mindset and encourages you to continue to recycle. The aesthetic background and visually appealing features promote more eco-friendly practices and more recycling.

How we built it

Using HTML, Python, and CSS, we were able to create Recycle Counter.

Challenges we ran into

While creating Recycling Counter, we faced many technical difficulties and collaboration problems. Specifically, linking all of the languages that we used posed difficult while we were working. Through teamwork and persistence, we were able to overcome these obstacles and create the final product.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of completing it with multiple languages, as it was a challenge to link them all together. Additionally, thinking positively throughout tough time and eventually completing it is something we are very proud of.

What we learned

While creating our project, we learned how to navigate VS code, collaborate efficiently, and use multiple languages on one project. We continued to develop our knowledge of coding and teamwork, giving us a great experience overall.

What's next for Recycling Counter

We look forward to expanding our project to promote recycling even more. We would add more celebratory items to continue to inspire people to recycle and make recycling fun!

Run the Flask application: bash python hack.py
Open your web browser and go to: http://127.0.0.1:5000
Start recycling! Enter the number of items you recycled and watch your pet grow.
