  The design we were going for!

Inspiration

The dining hall in our school. We need to work on our recycling at school. Therefore, our purpose is to promote ecology and persuade people to change their recycling behavior.

What it does

It can identify the trash you hold up to the camera.

How we built it

We trained a machine learning model with a lot of pictures of each type of trash. We coded based on Javascript, HTML, and CSS, as well as a machine-learned algorithm that categorizes masked and unmasked faces. The algorithm uses a trained data set of over 700+ image files - the trained mechanism is mixed into a visual sorting algorithm that works based off of the computer's webcam to determine the type of trash that is shown ; based on this algorithm's identification, the app provides auditory and written feedback to the user.
