Project Outline: RecycLens (i) Project Description: RecycLens is a web platform designed to improve waste sorting and promote mindful trash disposal habits on campus. It aligns with the Maker Track and Best Sustainability Track: 5C Community Hack by encouraging a collective approach to climate change. The platform features an AI-powered trash segregator that helps users determine the correct bin for their waste, a leaderboard for tracking progress across the 5C colleges, and a dashboard for personalized insights. Built with Python, Node.js, Flask, React, HTML, JavaScript, Verilog and powered by Google Gemini for image recognition, the platform prioritizes social good and user privacy. (ii) Purpose: Our project addresses confusion around waste sorting, aiming to simplify recycling and promote sustainability on campus. By leveraging technology and community engagement, we aim to create a culture of collective responsibility for the environment. RecycLens empowers users to make small, mindful changes that, together, drive real impact in the fight against climate change. In the future, we plan to scale the platform to other campuses and communities. (iii) How it Works: Trash Segregator: Users upload pictures of their trash, and the AI suggests the correct bin.
Dashboard: Tracks individual progress, compares it with peers, and offers personalized tips.
Upcoming Events: Lists local sustainability events, encouraging further community involvement.
RecycLens brings people together by making sustainability an easy, engaging, and community-driven effort.
