Inspiration

Last year, only 13% of Singapore's domestic waste was recycled. We hope to address this issue by making recycling more convenient and accessible for households. In addition, one main factor for low rates of recycling are improper recycling methods. Items in the blue recycling bins are often contaminated or unsuitable for recycling. Hence our telegram bot also provides useful information on recycling.

What it does

RecycleMe encourages users to recycle by providing useful tips and even helps you find the nearest recycling bin!

How we built it

Using data from Data.gov.sg, we parsed for the coordinates of recycling bins. User location was requested, and subsequently used to calculate the distance to these recycling bins.

• Parsing XML file for coordinates
• Sending map of nearest recycling bin to user

What's next for RecycleMe

• In the future, RecycleMe will feature a information menu that allows users to check if their items can be recycled, and if not, how it should be disposed of.
