Inspiration
Many people have seen these numbers on plastic products but have never thought about what they mean. In fact, it is very important to know the meaning of these numbers, as people can learn a lot of information about the product and protect our environment from plastic pollution. The numbers on plastic products indicate whether the product is recyclable, whether it can be recycled, and whether the type of plastic is hazardous to use if used incorrectly. And this is very important, because plastic products decompose in the ground for about 400 years, and when burned, they release toxic fumes that are toxic to people and animals.
What it does
This project helps to make people aware of the serious environmental problem of plastic pollution. Since not many people know about the meaning of numbers on plastic products, this project helps people not only learn their meaning, but also strengthen their knowledge by taking a quiz and learn to easily recognize which plastic products are recyclable and which are not by playing a game . In the game, users can catch falling objects into a trash bin for recycling. In case of catching a non-recyclable product, the user sees that his 'wrongly caught items' counter increases and if he catches 10 such items, he loses. This way people remember what is recyclable and what is not and also start sorting such plastic products like water, juice bottles, milk jugs and so on. Users can find helpful tips for properly sorting plastic and follow a plan designed to make sorting plastic products easier. The site also has a map of nearby recycling centers so people can easily drop off their recyclables there. This project encourages not only adults to care about our planet, but also children who will be interested in using the interactive website and playing an educational game. Thus, this project reaches all ages and raises awareness about the markings on plastic products and recycling in society.
How we built it
I used JavaScript to implement the quiz and the game.
Challenges we ran into
Find accurate statistics, do research on the topic, draw pictures for the website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of the design of my website and the JavaScript features I managed to implement.
What we learned
I learned a lot about JavaScript. Since I’m beginner at JavaScript, this hackathon allowed me to significantly enhance my knowledge.
