Inspiration
I created this skill to teach children about recycling and homelessness, two issues that currently plague my home-city of San Francisco. The two are often related as you can see from the following recent media stories: [link] https://abc7news.com/politics/street-cleaners-shed-new-light-on-sf-homeless-problem/3664686/ or [link] https://www.npr.org/2018/08/01/634626538/san-francisco-squalor-city-streets-strewn-with-trash-needles-and-human-feces.
What it does
An interactive story where children learn to recycle glass, paper, and plastic. They also learn a little bit about homelessness and empathy.
How I built it
Storyline.
Challenges I ran into
Using real voices for the characters. While it would have been easier to use Polly, I felt that real voice actors would make the game more engaging.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Having a 5 year old use the skill and actually liking and learning from it!
What I learned
The basic functionality of voice skills and their interfaces.
What's next for Recycle Robot
I've been emailed by a few users to create another level for their kids. Recycle robot is going to LA!
