One of Hong Kong’s biggest problems is the shortage of landfills. We were inspired by this issue to make an app that will help our community.
What it does
By using this app citizens are able to properly dispose of their waste, and know which items are recyclable. If more items are being recycled, then less waste is being thrown into our landfills.
How we built it
We built our project through Xcode using the programming language, Swift. We used different view controllers, buttons, images, to create a workable and user-friendly app.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout coding and building our app, we faced multiple challenges. As our team is not experts in programming, we ran into several bugs and errors. Most times the bugs were challenging to fix and we needed to spend a lot of time on each one. Through these trial and error, our team gained a new understanding of programming and persevered through and created our app, Recycle Right.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We think we have a really strong app idea, and though the process was difficult and even painful at times when the code did not work, we learned so much and had a lot of fun.
What we learned
We learned a lot about coding + the design process of creating an app. The idea generation was difficult, but planning the app and working together was one of the highlights of this experience.
What's next for Recycle Right
We want to add a plastic classification function to the sort, and we want to improve our accuracy rate for the classification model. We are also looking to add a time function to our game so it becomes more competitive, and also add a leaderboard.
