In the Los Angeles area alone, 10 metric tons of plastic fragments—like grocery bags, straws, and soda bottles—are carried into the Pacific Ocean every day. The average American throws away approximately 185 pounds of plastic per year. ``` Toxic metals can destroy the biochemistry, behavior, reproduction, and growth in marine life.

What it does

Enables users to estimate the amount of recyclable waste. They can also see how much they can earn by recycling the day to day household waste.

How we built it

Server: Java, Spring-Data, Spring-REST, MongoDB Front End: JQuery, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript

We build RESTful services which could be consumed by the front end for visualization.

Challenges we ran into

The major challenge here was to find data for our project. There were no APIs that would fetch standard data for us. So, we had to visit government websites, environmental organization's websites, etc. in order to find out data. Representing this data in a way that we can encourage people to reuse and recycle material.

We brainstormed the entire Friday night to come up with an Idea that would make an IMPACT!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are able to create awareness and at the same time cause a social impact on one of the biggest challenges the 21st-century faces, Environmental Pollution!

What's next for Recycle Hub

Android and IOs Application for ease of access. Also, availing third-party garbage collection facility allowing people to recycle sitting at home, just on a click!!
