Inspiration
A common problem I see every time I eat at a dining hall is that people never go out of their way to recycle the most common of trash: plastic plates, paper cups, single use soda containers, etc. People will only go if it were fun, providing an incentive. My idea to make recycling competitive. Similar to popular games with the core game-play involve Geo-Tracking apps like Pokemon Go and Ingress. The main goal of these games is to take over Gyms to gain virtual benefits and bragging rights.
What it does
My prototype is a similar concept involving people going about their daily lives, actively looking for recycling bins and consequently remembering where to throw away trash in the future. As an added benefit (if inclined to do so, pick up other people's trash). Practically, people will try to conquer and replace the logo on the recycling bin with their own team's logo.
How I built it
I started with analyzing the most common and consistent types of trash and narrowed down the 2 most common forms of trash, plastic bottles and plates.
Challenges I ran into
Coding is not my strong suite as I struggled to get large, matrices to cooperate with the rest of my code. But minimally, I have a few ways to demonstrate. Power is something I look to improve on as the current setup is a big drain on power.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I learned how to use the laser cutter to make panels for grids and interlocked them with tolerances in mind.
What I learned
I definitely need some more computer science minded partners in I am to improve on the idea.
What's next for Recycle Conquest
People are more connected with apps and social media. An app to locate recycling bins and view highscores will be a big improvement.
