Inspiration

We wanted to solve the climate change issue and specifically focus on plastic waste. Only 8.45% of plastics are actually recycled. There are many types of plastics and there is a specific way to recycle them. We wanted to help people find the correct way to recycle and reduce plastic waste.

What it does

When the user takes a photo of the plastic, the app will recognize the plastic-type and create a report on how to recycle the plastic properly. The users can also upload a photo and the app does the same thing. We also have a page where users can learn about plastic waste and all the types.

How we built it

We used Visual Studio to write all the codes and use Symblai for photo recognition.

What we learned

We learned how to implement technology in ways that benefit not only our local community but our world. While researching on information about recycling plastics for the app we were able to hone our research skills properly and effectively use the information acquired by integrating it into our app.

What's next for Recycle Buddy

We want to implement a better photo recognition that will allow users to upload or take a photo of different wastes; the app will analyze the different wastes and it will help the user understand how to recycle those properly. We want to implement waste such as food, paper, or cardboard.
