Recur - A New Way to Invest

Inspiration

We were inspired to create this app by looking at the flaws of investing and subscription apps such as Acorn and Truebill. Combining both processes of saving and investing was something we were drawn to, and this concept was the reason for the creation of this app.

What it does

By combining the main features from the likes of Acorn and Truebill, we were able to create an app that seamlessly translates from subscription saving to reinvesting the savings into a stock portfolio. The app tracks your spending, asks for subscriptions the user wants to cancel, and allows the user to reinvest those savings into stocks and crypto currencies.

How we built it

We built this app with a combination of numpy from python for the backend code and adobe xd for the user interface. The code consists of a function that reads the csv file of the user’s banking statements and finds repeating prices for the same product in the user’s history. Another function then takes the savings acquired by the cancellation of the subscriptions and then allows the user to invest the savings into stocks, whether it be automatic from the app or choosing themselves where the money should go out of all the companies in the S&P 500.

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult for us to build our function to track and recognize what is and isn’t a subscription from the user’s bank statement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We really like our UI design and how it came out. We also are just happy with our end product as this is our first hackathon.

What we learned

We learned about how to collaborate with other people on a coding project, and we also learned more about python and adobe XD by having to use it rigorously to create our code.

What's next for Goochie Gang

We hope to participate in more Hack-a-thons and learn more about software development in general. We also hope to become NFT millionaires, so stay tuned for the come-up :).
