Inspiration

Every year, thousands of Nigerians lose money, time, and opportunities to fake recruitment websites and scam job advertisements. Finding legitimate government recruitment information is difficult because announcements are scattered across many official portals and often appear without notice.

We built RecruitmentAlert to solve this problem by creating a trusted platform that continuously monitors official recruitment portals, verifies opportunities with AI, and alerts users in real time before scams reach them.

What it does

RecruitmentAlert is an AI-powered recruitment verification platform that helps Nigerians discover legitimate government job opportunities safely.

The platform:

Monitors official Nigerian government recruitment portals. Detects newly published or updated recruitment opportunities. Uses AI to summarize recruitment notices into easy-to-read information. Verifies recruitment announcements and assigns trust scores. Detects suspicious or fake recruitment links. Provides a searchable platform for verified opportunities. Sends real-time notifications so users never miss legitimate recruitment.

How we built it

We built RecruitmentAlert using a modern full-stack architecture.

Frontend React TypeScript Tailwind CSS Vite

Backend Python Django Django REST Framework PostgreSQL Redis Celery

AI OpenAI API for: Recruitment summarization Scam detection Verification assistance Trust scoring

Monitoring Engine Scheduled portal monitoring Intelligent change detection Content fingerprinting Duplicate detection Background workers for continuous monitoring

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was ensuring that users only receive legitimate recruitment information.

Government recruitment portals differ significantly in design and structure, making it difficult to extract consistent information. We also had to minimize duplicate alerts, detect meaningful changes instead of simple webpage updates, and design an AI-assisted verification process that improves trust without replacing human judgment.

Balancing speed, reliability, and accuracy while monitoring multiple portals continuously was another major engineering challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a working recruitment verification platform from the ground up. Successfully integrated AI into the verification workflow. Created a system capable of monitoring multiple government recruitment portals. Developed trust scoring to help users identify legitimate opportunities. Designed a clean, professional interface focused on credibility. Built infrastructure that can scale to monitor many more recruitment sources.

What we learned

This project taught us that AI is most valuable when it helps people make safer and more informed decisions.

We also learned how to combine large language models with traditional software engineering techniques such as scheduled monitoring, background processing, change detection, and verification workflows to solve a real-world problem.

Most importantly, we learned that trust is one of the hardest features to build—and one of the most valuable.

What's next for RecruitmentAlert

Our roadmap includes:

Expanding to all Nigerian federal and state recruitment agencies. Browser extension for scam detection while browsing recruitment websites. WhatsApp and Telegram AI assistant. Personalized job recommendations based on user preferences. Support for more African countries. Public API for verified recruitment data. Mobile applications for Android and iOS. Multilingual support for wider accessibility.
