Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project came from our own post-highschool experience, as we struggling to find people to play soccer with. As children it's easy to be physically active, we naturally tend towards activities that get us moving. In school, if you wanted to play a sport, you would go outside and find a group of people playing and join in with them. There would be people playing soccer, basketball, football, etc. However, as we get older, we tend to drop these activities and recline into a more sedentary, less active lifestyle

A study from McMaster that analyzed the activity levels from adolescence to adulthood, found that the steepest dropoff in physical activity was among high school graduates entering university/college. The same study states that 20% of premature deaths could be prevented regular physical activity, highlighting its significance to the average adult.

We believe that the desire to play is still there, however as we get older we start to get burdened with more and more commitments. Things like school and work start to get in the way. Sports teams require a season long commitment from people who are already juggling work, school and even children. We believe if we are able to provide people with an easy way to find local fields, find/develop hot spots where people actually congregate to play, and provide a low commitment environment, that we will remove the current barriers and help adults lead a healthy lifestyle.

What it does

Municipalities, organizations, and individuals create fields/amenities that users can go to. They also create schedules to know when fields are available so users can plan activities for those times. Users can see available fields and number of people at the location, as well as previous activity to know when people are actually playing.

How we built it

We used Figma to design and prototype the application.

Challenges we ran into

Most of us have not used Figma so it was a learning experience. We ran into a problem of creating icons before figuring out how to use icon packs.

We also had some roadblocks when brainstorming how the app would work, and what different views/pages their were, and ensuring that our prototype was doing the best it could at conveying our idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud that our application is a solution to a problem we, as individuals actually face in our daily lives. We are also proud of how it looks aesthetically. It was a well fleshed out idea with a lot of useful features.

What we learned

Learned how to use Figma to design and prototype a complete app.

What's next for reCreate

An actual implementation of the app, with a GPS API to automatically increase the number of people at a location when a user is in the vicinity of a field. The ability to add friends to see what activities they are doing and where (and maybe an invisible mode too).
