Inspiration

We have a lot of scraps in our households. We have always discussed doing something with them, but we never do. Thus, the birth of recycling, we are concerned about the growing mountain of trash and scraps that end up in landfills. Our team believes anyone can turn trash into treasures with guidance and tools. Furthermore, we see opportunities for brands to engage with sustainability-focused customers in upcycling their off-cuts.

What it does

  • Instant Scrap Recognition. -Personalized upcycling prompts. -Brand partnership tags -Gamify recycling and reward users for their creations.

How we built it

For this development, we used the following tech stack:- Computer Vision & ML will classify materials (wood, metal, fabric, plastic) and estimate their size.

Web Front-End Built with React Native and React.js for a seamless cross-platform experience.

Backend & APIs- Flask-based API handles image uploads, ML inference, and project-generation logic; PostgreSQL stores user profiles and scrap inventories.

Brand Integrations: Developed a plugin system for partner brands to add their own project templates and reward rules via a simple dashboard.

Challenges we ran into

Integration of all the components, image generation, and proper use of the openAI SDK, a reliable point system, and password hashing issues for user security.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built and deployed a functional demo in 35 hours, thinking of a solution that we believe can genuinely better people's lives through art therapy and fruitful leisure while keeping brand costs low and helping the environment.

What we learned

How big the scraps problem is in the world, and truly fathom the metrics of wastage and cost of its management.

What's next for Recreate

We are personally in love with the idea, we are planning on further iterations for optimization, and launching this as an initiative to do our part with the skills that we have to make a difference.
