Inspiration
The current information delays between health providers and health authorities shows the problem of fragmentation in healthcare information systems.
RECOVID responds with a solution: A central health information infrastructure for all points and levels of care.
RECOVID represents the necessary transformation of epidemiological intelligence (EI) in the fight against SARS-CoV-2. The development and implementation of RECOVID will mean: (a) the end of menial tasks in the collection and merging of information from multiple sources, (b) the rise of real-time information sharing and (c) the recollection of data in a precise and non-repeated way, using homogeneous criteria and protocols throughout health systems.
Such a cohesive action would enable real-time upscaling of information across different healthcare workers, such as clinicians, laboratory technicians and even Health Ministry authorities.
RECOVID will allow the simultaneous analysis of epidemic scenarios, facilitating the decision making processes regarding prevention and contention of outbreaks. This will potentially have a massive positive impact in the present and future pandemics, contributing to good health and well being of society.
The development of this platform is to be based on the needs of end users and management agents. Designed for large-scale deployment and long-term support, RECOVID is a tool built for the future.
Foreseeable benefits to healthcare
- Data quality: Since the data collection will be homogeneous and shared between different health providers, the quality standards will improve
- Avoidance of repetitive data collection processes.
- Data architecture: simpler and more efficient data architectures can be developed
- Faster data collection: enables real-time reactions
- Leaner data systems: being able to focus resources on tasks that truly benefit patients and the well-being of medical professionals
- Easier access to multi-centric data for research and clinical studies
- Faster access to up-to-date patient information
Foreseeable benefits to society
- Reachability of medical records by patients
- Healthcare authorities can be better informed about new cases, possible outbreaks and overall disruptive situations in their system
- Rapid extraction of verified and standardized data for research
- Reduction of data-related costs
- Easier understanding of the healthcare system
- Lower latency between data collection and decision making
What's next for RECOVID
In the near future, we aim to spread our word, bringing multiple agents both in medicine and public opinion to our cause. It is clear to us that the current state of health information systems is unsustainable.
