Inspiration
We live in a constant stream of recommendations. A song lyric in a text. A book mentioned on a podcast. A movie poster on someone’s story. A show suggestion in passing conversation. They come quickly. They disappear faster. Screenshots pile up. Notes get cryptic. Bookmarks scatter across platforms. By the time you try to remember, the moment is gone. The problem isn’t a lack of recommendations. It’s the lack of a system that captures them the way we naturally discover them. Recora was built to solve that. Not another generic recommendation app. A personal curator that understands how taste actually forms: through conversation, context, images, moods, and spontaneous moments.
What it does
Recora is an app built around three core experiences:
Multimodal Taste Capture
Capture anything in seconds, however it reaches you: Voice: Say a lyric, describe a scene, half-remember a title Camera: Snap a book cover, poster, or album art Text: Type a thought, a vibe, or a specific request
The AI identifies the media, understands context, and saves it to your personal library with rich metadata and artwork in real time.
Intelligent Library
A clean, organized space for everything you discover: Automatic categorization across music, film, TV, books, and more Status tracking like Queued, Loved, Disliked Full-text search by title, creator, or keywords Synced updates
No more scattered screenshots. No more lost notes.
AI That Understands Your Taste
The Discover experience analyzes your patterns, interests, and preferences to generate recommendations tailored specifically to you. Learns your genres and creators Prioritizes your stated interests Avoids duplicates Generates personalized suggestions with contextual reasoning Every recommendation feels considered, not random.
Personalized Profile
Your taste, distilled: An AI-generated tagline based on your habits Customizable interest tags Stats and favorite genre insights
How I built it
I built Recora using Replit's mobile app platform. The entire stack lives in one environment: SwiftUI frontend, Node.js backend, WebSocket streaming for real-time AI responses, and integrations with Gemini, Deezer, and OMDb APIs. Replit made it possible to iterate fast without juggling Xcode, simulators, or deployment pipelines.
