Inspiration
We are all students. All of us either personally face stress, anxiety, mild depression or knows someone who does. We wanted to help those who are unable to cope with such stress. One of our team members was reading a lot of self-help books and while finding the content useful, found it hard to have the mind and discipline to put those ideas into practice. If only there was some sort of app that was able to guide the user in applying these ideas to better themselves in coping with stress.
What it does
The solution we came up with was not an app, but rather a chat bot. This chat bot would guide the user through setting a purpose statement (taken from the book "Peak Performance"), and further remind the user about their purpose through daily reflections and weekly reviews. The reflections itself uses active questioning, which encourages the user to reflect on their course of action. Through this two basic techniques, we hope that the bot would be able to empower the user carry out their daily activities, hard or easy, with their purpose in mind.
We are aware that these techniques may not be for everyone, and may even be detrimental to those with moderate to severe depression. As such we have implemented a short depression test to determine if the user is at risk, referring them to a psychiatrist instead. We took this opportunity to attempt to reduce the stigma associated with seeking help by letting the user know that seeking psychiatrist help is completely confidential.
