Inspiration

Most AI marketing tools focus on predicting whether a campaign will succeed. However, many real-world brand crises happen because teams fail to anticipate how a campaign could be misunderstood, criticized, memed, or weaponized by competitors. We wanted to flip the perspective and build an AI system that asks a different question:

"How could this campaign fail before it goes live?"

This led us to create Recoil AI, an AI-powered campaign red-team platform that helps brands identify potential backlash, reputation risks, and unintended consequences before launch.

What it does

Recoil AI analyzes marketing campaigns before publication and simulates possible negative reactions.

Users provide campaign information such as a slogan, campaign description, or marketing copy. The platform then generates:

AI Red-Team Analysis Activist perspective Journalist perspective Competitor perspective Meme creator perspective Meme Attack Simulator Generates parody meme concepts Calculates a Memeability Score Backlash Risk Score Provides an overall campaign risk rating Highlights major risk factors Future Crisis Generator Simulates a future PR crisis scenario Explains what could go wrong and why Suggests preventive actions

The result is a comprehensive pre-launch risk assessment report that helps marketing teams identify blind spots before the public does.

How we built it

We built Recoil AI as a modern web application using:

React TypeScript Tailwind CSS OpenAI/Gemini APIs Structured AI prompt engineering

The frontend provides a clean dashboard where users submit campaign information and receive detailed analysis reports.

The backend AI layer uses carefully designed prompts to generate structured risk assessments, parody meme simulations, backlash scoring, and crisis scenarios in a single analysis workflow.

We focused on creating a fast, intuitive experience that delivers actionable insights within seconds.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was balancing creativity with reliability.

Because the application relies on large language models, we needed to ensure that outputs remained:

Structured Relevant Consistent Actionable

Another challenge was designing meaningful synthetic personas that provide distinct perspectives instead of repeating similar feedback.

We also had to carefully engineer prompts to generate realistic campaign risks and meme scenarios while avoiding exaggerated or unrealistic outputs.

Finally, we wanted the user experience to feel like a professional risk-analysis platform rather than a typical AI chatbot, which required multiple iterations of UI and workflow design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a unique AI application that focuses on predicting campaign failure rather than campaign success. Created a multi-perspective AI red-team system that simulates real-world criticism and backlash. Developed a Meme Attack Simulator that demonstrates how internet culture might reinterpret campaign messaging. Designed a Future Crisis Generator that encourages proactive risk management. Delivered a complete end-to-end prototype with a clean and professional user experience. Transformed a complex brand strategy concept into a practical tool that can help organizations make better marketing decisions before launching campaigns.

Most importantly, we built a product that addresses a largely overlooked problem:

Brands spend enormous effort predicting positive reactions, but very few tools help them predict negative ones. Recoil AI fills that gap.
