Inspiration
Some 2D PC games, such as "Shotgun Cop Man," use weapon recoil as a core movement mechanic to create engaging experiences. This inspired us to explore how this concept could translate into a fresh gaming experience in VR, leading to the development of this game.
What it does
Recoil is a VR game that features Gun Recoil as its Core Movement Mechanic. Players move using this innovative system to overcome challenging obstacles. The game offers a single-player platforming experience that is “easy to pick up, hard to master, and highly punishing.”
How we built it
We developed this game using Unreal Engine.
Challenges we ran into
As it was our first time developing a VR game, acquiring the foundational knowledge was our greatest challenge. On top of that, designing levels for a VR game—which differs significantly from creating levels for traditional PC games—presented another considerable hurdle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We've experimented with a brand-new movement system in this VR game and have built some interesting challenges around it.
What we learned
We have acquired the fundamental skills for developing a VR game and a completely new approach to level design.
What's next for Recoil
Building on this foundation, we plan to expand the gameplay further. In addition to diverse single-player levels. We’re developing multiplayer modes that emphasize both competition and cooperation.
