We wanted to utilize facial recognition software to help with a real life issue such as mental health for teens or young adults.
What it does
Detects your emotion whether you are sad, happy, or angry and it outputs you music, articles, videos, and quotes based on your mood.
How we built it
We built it using opencv and tensorflow libraries that do most of the dense code under the hood. Then we created python scripts to add the mental health functionality. Lastly, we created a website to display it all.
Challenges we ran into
Our website does not display our results because we could not figure out how to do live streaming video. Also, it was difficult trying to do the facial recognition from scratch so we are glad the libraries helped us out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to convert the emotion detection output as something we could work with to add the helpful resources to it.
What we learned
We learned alot about web development and how it is more complex then it seems. Two of our teammates worked with python for the first time and none of us had ever used tensorflow.
What's next for RecogMind
We would like to get it working on a website or app that way it is more accessible. Also, we would like to add in age detection so we can filter the content towards more of what the user would like. Additionally, we would like to detect more emotions than just anger, sadness, and happiness.
