ReciPlease

Inspiration

We were trying to figure out an app idea that would be useful to everyone. Considering the rising price of groceries, our goal was to find a solution by reducing food waste and money spent.

What it does

The user inputs a recipe that they would like to purchase ingredients for at the grocery store. ReciPlease will analyze the recipe and compare the ingredients with their respective quantity to a grocery store database. It will output the lowest cost and least wasteful way to buy all the necessary ingredients.

How we built it

The front end was developed using ReactJS and the backend using Flask.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into various challenges connecting and passing data between the front and back end as we had limited experience with this beforehand. It was also challenging to develop the cost optimization algorithms considering all the possible combinations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As this is one of the first hackathons for all the members, we are proud that we were able to learn almost all the technologies used for this project during the time of the hackathon.
