Inspiration
I wanted to build a calorie retrieval app ever since I joined this hackathon. I felt that it would be a great first time hackathon project.
What it does
The user queries the recipe they want and the React app makes a request to Edamam's Recipe API. The fetched results are then processed and the necessary data are displayed to the screen.
How I built it
- ReactJS
- No back-end
Challenges I ran into
Initially, I wanted to build a back-end that would sent JSON packets to the frontend. The team I was a part of had a frontend engineer, a back-end engineer, and me, for integrating the frontend with the backend. 12 hours in, our backend engineer dropped out and we were left helpless, unable to build proper routes. The next day, the frontend engineer quit out of frustration. So I took on this project on my own.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- That I didn't give up
What I learned
- Teamwork is the most essential part of any hackathon.
- Back-end engineers are undervalued.
- I need to learn better full stack development.
What's next for Recipe Retrival App
Honestly, I don't see a future with this app. It's as basic as it gets.
