Recipe Repo

My (George) inspiration for this idea came when I was talking to my brother about Ideas on how to use AI to improve our lives at home. We threw around many ideas for how to use AI to make our lives easier at home and one problem that we wanted to tackle was food waste management. We wanted to be able to find recipes that we could make with our ingredients before they spoiled so that we wouldn’t have to throw them away and that idea after some thought developed into this app. This application allows users to upload a list of ingredients available to them that they have and returns a list of possible recipes that they can make from said ingredients. I (George Mendez) designed a UI together with our frontend engineer Maria while our Backend developer Brian was writing the software with our other backend developer Daria. Once Maria understood how the website was supposed to look and feel I moved over to the backend providing any assistance as I could. Connecting the backend to the front end, and managing expectations for the project as there were many features that we wanted to implement and had the code ready for but we didn’t consider how difficult it would be to integrate it all together, working in a team environment on such an ambitious project was also a challenge in and of itself but in the end it made us all better communicator and made us appreciate the soft skills required to launch a successful product which is something that we may have overlooked before. We’re proud that we were each able to build something in such a short amount of time even if it was difficult at first, we overcame many challenges along the way. Speaking for myself, I’m proud that I was able to make my vision become a reality and that others can now use my application anytime they want and use it to experience a world that they may have otherwise not experienced. We learned to communicate in a team environment, manage expectations, and set strict deadlines for project management as well as a host of technical skills that allowed us to build such a project. I (George) plan to take this product even further and fully Integrate the machine learning algorithm that I wrote After I do that I will develop both the Android and Ios versions of this application while training my own model which will be more accurate at classifying produce and use that along with the skills that I learned to launch this startup into a successful company. We’ll be adding foods from different cultures and adding features to allow users to filter recipes by health concerns or weight-related goals. There are so many ideas but you will just have to wait and see what we come up with next.
