Inspiration
As students who just arrived to Melbourne, living alone is a new territory that we've never explored, and that includes constantly cooking for ourselves. As we tried to find recipes that is within our financial, dietary and culinary capability, we found it very difficult to navigate cooking websites. Therefore, we decided to come up with a better idea for a cooking website, where we could give users (mainly students) easy, yummy and affordable recipes.
What it does
Theoretically, it should let users to search a recipe from our database. We planned to use web scraping to obtain recipes from other websites so that we can have a variety of recipes for users to choose. Besides that, the user can enter whatever ingredients they have at home and the website should be able to come up with a recipe that matches completely or mostly with the user's ingredients. On top of that, the Help button on the navigation bar allows users to submit queries or bug reports to developers.
How we built it
We used HTML and CSS for the front-end but for the backend we used Python. However, the backend development was not implemented yet.
Challenges we ran into
As we had little to no prior experience with markup languages like HTML and CSS, we had to learn everything in a span of 3 days. We were also too ambitious with our ideas as they require high expertise and tedious coding to be implemented.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a webpage that looks somewhat aesthetically pleasing.
What we learned
We really got to buck up our coding skills and be realistic about our ideas.
What's next for Recipe Planner
Implementing the backend development using Python or SQL.
