Inspiration

My family and I enjoy exploring various kinds of food around the Bay Area. However, since the Bay Area is so big, we have issues determining what kinds of food we would want for dinner and we end up wasting a lot of time researching and trying to figure out what food we would eat for dinner. Finally, with hackmerced I find myself with the opportunity to create a fun and short project for the event and for myself as well.

What it does

The web app is simple to use. It has a few button where you can create a new meal each time, show the image of the meal, show the ingredients, and instructions on how to prepare the dish. There is also a favorites button, but due to the time constraint, I was not able to finish it.

How we built it

I built it using ReactJS and used an API from TheMealDB.com.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges I ran into was trying to work out the buttons so that one element of each of the button would appear at a time. I was able to overcome it by learning to multiple useStates. Another challenge I ran into was figuring out how to use the API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that I was able to create a web application with knowledge that I have forgotten in the past and that I was able to codeswitch smoothly.

What we learned

I was able to understand how to use the API and pull data that I can use for my web app. In addition, learning how to use multiple useStates while dealing with logic in my function was something I was proud of.

What's next for Recipe Generator

Favorites section!! The ability to favorite a meal and store that data in a database so that the next time you use it, you can look back at your favorites. Maybe a history section as well to see the previous meal that was generated.
