Inspiration

We always wanted to cook at home, but we never knew what to cook or how to cook it, so we wanted to create an app that allows us to cook at home by finding recipes from ingredients we already have, and if not that, recipes that require only one or two more ingredients.

What it does

The app takes in the ingredients you currently have available at home and returns recipes for food you can make with them. Once it finds the recipes, it shows you the top 20 recipes you can make on your own and gives you all the ingredients and steps.

How we built it

We used Android Studio to create the Android App and used the Spoonacular API to find recipes that have the ingredients that we want.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges that we ran into were XML files in the project not cooperating with us and making the UI not look the way we intended. Additionally, we also struggled to find APIs that were not expensive and ones that didn't have limited requests, so we had to work around the limited requests by using dummy data to test out our project.

What's next for Recipe Finder

The next steps for Recipe Finder are to add more features, such as filtering the foods that we choose out by allergens, and we also want to add a feature where we can specify the maximum price we're willing to spend on extra ingredients we don't already have. Additionally, we would like to expand the dataset that we are currently using to help find more recipes that users can make.
