Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project was to tackle the growing problem of burnout, especially among students. As students ourselves, we face the ongoing pressure of school, deadlines, and expectations, and we have seen, first-hand, how easily this stress can build up without people realizing it. Though considering this, burnout doesn't just affect students, it can impact areas of everyone's life. So, we decided to create something that helps people recognize the signs of burnout sooner and encourages healthier habits so that they can focus on improving their mental health.

What it does

Our cross-platform application, Recharge, has many different features surrounding burnout tracking. First off, it has a page where you can track your hours spent on certain activities (such as sleep and work), which then has an AI function that calculates and outputs your "risk of burnout percentage." In addition to this, there is also a section where an LLM will provide you with personalized suggestions to help reduce your stress and restore your energy.

How we built it

We started from outlining the key features that we hope the app to have, and designed the UI layout. We then tried some approaches that didn't work, and finally decided to build a mobile app with React Native. With that set, we used Antigravity to build the basic framework of the app, and continued to make edits and improvements before we landed to our final version.

Challenges we ran into:

-We used up multiple Gemini API key limits, and had to create a few new account

-We had to pivot our idea multiple times after realizing it is not what we want. For example, we first coded it in React but decided to switch to React Native later to make it a mobile app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-We were able to create a fully functional cross-platform application

-We can let Gemini generate a burnout level, according to suggestions based on the user's data

-We were able to create an option to connect the user's calendar to our own application

What we learned

-Initial ideas might not always work out, and it is normal to pivot and adapt around problems

-Done > Perfect, focus on your main goal rather than everything else first

What's next for Recharge

-Integration of personal external devices and functions such as tracking Apple Watch health statistics, and your screen time

-Training an AI-Chatbot for more personalized/scientifically-backed information suggestions for each user through continuous learning and data sourcing
