Inspiration
In Nigeria, paper receipts fade, get lost, or are thrown away. People struggle to track expenses for business, warranty, or tax purposes. We wanted a zero-paper solution.
What it does
ReceiptSnap lets you snap/upload a receipt and instantly see the Store name + Amount saved as a digital card. Built in 48hrs with Bolt.new.
Demo shows OCR flow with Humble Living ₦34000 cards.
How we built it
- Frontend: React + Tailwind on Bolt.new
- OCR: Tesseract.js for text extraction
- Storage: localStorage for persistence
- UI: Mobile-first, clean green theme
Challenges I ran into
- Bolt’s mobile preview lagged on uploads during submission night
- Getting OCR to reliably pull just Store + Amount, not all text
- Building a working MVP in 48hrs while also juggling UPI Hackathon
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Shipped a live, working demo URL in 48hrs with clean UI and real persistence. No backend needed.
What I learned
Scope small, ship fast. A working demo beats a perfect idea. Bolt is insane for speed.
What's next for ReceiptSnap
- Real OCR v2: Train it to auto-detect Store, Amount, Date, and Category with 99% accuracy instead of demo mode
- Cloud Sync + Accounts: Let users sign in so receipts don’t disappear if they clear browser data
- Search & Filters: "Show all Shoprite receipts from March" or "Total spent on Food > ₦50,000"
- Export: One-tap PDF/CSV download for accountants, tax filing, or business records
- WhatsApp Integration: Forward a receipt photo to our WhatsApp → get a saved digital card back instantly
- Shared Wallets: Couples/small businesses can track expenses together.
