We are a team of 5 women with different cultural backgrounds, yet we all live in Denmark, Europe and this has more or less impacted our awareness of the personal foot-print that each human being has. Danmark is widely known for environment-friendly solutions and this is part of our culture now more than ever. Based on the idea that we can do anything we set our mind to, we have decided to optimize the process for the people in Nicaragua who recycle bottles for food, in order for these to be able to help more people, in less time than it currently takes.
What it does
Our digital solution allows the volunteers to provide and store proofs of the plastic bottles - food exchange. It enables the volunteer to be transparent by connecting on the mobile app through a unique account. The app provides an overview of all the receipts that have been handled and these can be imported either by manual insertion, picture AI scanning. Lastly, the data is confirmed and the process is successfully completed.
How we built it
We have projected our idea into a prototype that explains the user journey which is easy to follow. This way, no onboarding process should be needed for using the mobile application.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge in the project has been to figure out a way to combine the app's simplicity with the complexity of the AI's technology. Additional challenge that most of our team members faced was trying to actively participate in hackathon, while also working on other projects that also had the deadline this week.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy for reaching our goal which is to do more in less time so that more people get their food and enjoy it too.

We kept our focus on the final goal, like never before.
What's next for Receipts Reader - App
While this was simple demo of quickly created design, given more time we would additionally improve user experience and visuals of the app; create functional receipt reader with form processing and text recognition with AI builder and also create visually attractive reports with D3.js to display on organization's website.
