Mochii Your AI-Powered Financial Companion
Inspiration
Gen Z is growing up in a world of instant purchases, subscriptions, and social spending, yet managing money often feels overwhelming and boring. Small expenses add up, and it's easy to lose sight of where your money goes and how today's habits shape tomorrow's finances.
We built Mochii to make financial literacy feel less like budgeting and more like an experience you'd actually want to use. By combining AI-powered spending insights, future spending predictions, gamification, and shareable recaps, Mochii turns personal finance into something visual, interactive, and social. We're not just tracking money — we're helping Gen Z build better financial habits on their own terms.
What It Does
Mochii transforms everyday spending into personalized, shareable financial insights.
- Spending Wrapped: Discover where your money goes through visually engaging breakdowns of spending habits and categories.
- Spending Predictions: Explore projected spending over different time horizons based on your habits and recurring expenses.
- Financial Insights: Identify hidden spending patterns, recurring subscriptions, and opportunities to make more informed financial decisions.
- Shareable Daily Receipts: Turn daily spending into aesthetic, shareable summaries that make financial accountability more social.
- Gamified Financial Literacy: Make better money decisions through engaging challenges, goals, and personalized feedback.
Mochii makes it easier to understand not just where your money went, but where your current habits could take you next.
How We Built It
We built Mochii as a modern, interactive financial companion with a focus on approachable design, personalized insights, and an engaging user experience.
Our frontend uses React and Next.js to deliver a responsive interface, while our backend supports financial data processing and spending analysis. We designed the experience around visual spending breakdowns, predictive insights, and shareable recaps to make financial information easier to understand and act on.
We also incorporated a demo experience so users can explore Mochii's core features without needing to connect a real bank account.
Challenges We Ran Into
One of our biggest challenges was making financial data accessible without overwhelming users. Traditional budgeting tools can feel tedious, so we wanted to present meaningful insights through a fun, intuitive interface.
Bank integration was another challenge. Securely connecting financial accounts and syncing transactions introduces technical and security requirements that are difficult to fully implement within a hackathon. We focused on making the core experience accessible through a demo flow while keeping automatic financial syncing as a future goal.
We also had to balance Mochii's many potential features with a clear, cohesive user experience, especially on mobile.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
We're proud of turning an everyday problem into an engaging, consumer-focused financial experience.
- Built a Spotify Wrapped-inspired approach to understanding personal finances.
- Designed a spending prediction experience that helps users consider the longer-term impact of everyday purchases.
- Made financial insights more visual, approachable, and shareable.
- Created a demo experience that lets users explore Mochii without connecting sensitive financial accounts.
- Explored how social accountability and gamification can make financial literacy more engaging.
What We Learned
We learned that presenting financial information is only part of the problem. Helping people care about it is just as important.
By combining financial insights with familiar social and entertainment experiences, we explored how technology can make financial literacy feel less intimidating and more rewarding. We also gained experience prioritizing features under hackathon constraints and designing around the challenges of financial data integration.
What's Next for Mochii
Our next goal is to create and publish a dedicated mobile app, making Mochii easier to use daily with native notifications, quick check-ins, and convenient access to lessons and recaps.
We also plan to connect Mochii to third-party financial services so users can securely authorize automatic transaction syncing. This would keep spending analysis, monthly recaps, subscription tracking, and personalized challenges up to date without manual imports.
Beyond that, we want to expand social accountability features, introduce personalized financial challenges, and improve spending forecasts using transaction history and recurring income and expenses. Our long-term vision is to help users make more informed financial decisions while making the process genuinely enjoyable.
