Inspiration
This app was inspired by the many inconveniences all of us in the group had to deal with when travelling--especially with payments and calculating who owes who at the end of the trip. We were inspired by the HTML/CSS and JavaScript workshops to create a webapp in order to allow users to have an easier trip.
What it does
This app uses the Azure Cognitive Services API to allow users to simply snap a photo of their receipts, and the app will automatically add the bill to each member of the group.
How we built it
The Azure Cognitive Services API allowed us to convert from the receipt image to JSON text that we could work with. We built a JavaScript backend that ran the API and saved the queries into our FireBase repository, which allowed our web app to access the information.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges, especially with the Cognitive Services API. For example, in many instances, the text wasn't fully transmitted and there were things missing. We had to compensate by figuring out which areas of the image were the most important and focus our API there.
