About PeerHealApp Inspiration The inspiration for PeerHealApp came from witnessing the persistent barriers faced by individuals seeking mental health support—especially the stigma, high costs, and lack of safe, judgment-free spaces. Many people feel isolated or hesitant to reach out for help due to privacy concerns or fear of being judged. We envisioned a platform where anyone could access real-time, peer-driven support, enhanced by modern technology, to make mental health care more inclusive, accessible, and trustworthy.
What We Learned Building PeerHealApp was a journey of discovery and growth. We deepened our understanding of:
The importance of privacy and anonymity in mental health platforms.
How AI can complement peer support by providing instant, non-judgmental guidance and crisis management.
The value of blockchain technology in creating transparent, incentive-based systems that foster trust within online communities.
The necessity of designing intuitive, accessible user experiences for sensitive topics.
How We Built It Frontend: Developed using React and TypeScript for a robust, scalable foundation, styled with Tailwind CSS for a modern, responsive interface.
Authentication & Backend: Leveraged Supabase for secure user authentication and real-time data management.
AI Integration: Incorporated a custom AI assistant (with ElevenLabs demo) to provide instant support and guidance.
Blockchain: Integrated Algorand for transparent, reward-based features that incentivize positive engagement and trust.
Architecture: Employed a modular structure with reusable components, context providers for state management, and clear routing for seamless navigation.
Utilities: Used tools like ESLint and Prettier for code quality, and react-hook-form with zod for robust form handling and validation.
Challenges Faced Balancing Privacy and Community: Ensuring users could connect meaningfully while maintaining anonymity and data security required careful architectural decisions.
Integrating Diverse Technologies: Seamlessly combining AI, blockchain, and real-time peer support posed technical and design challenges.
User Experience: Crafting an interface that feels welcoming, safe, and easy to use—especially for those in distress—demanded thoughtful design and constant iteration.
Resource Curation: Compiling and organizing trustworthy mental health resources that cater to diverse needs and backgrounds.
PeerHealApp represents our commitment to harnessing technology for good—empowering people to support each other and access mental wellness resources without fear or barriers. We’re excited to continue evolving the platform and making a real difference in mental health care.
