Inspiration
Construction projects generate enormous amounts of surplus material. Doors, flooring, lumber, fixtures, tiles, windows, and furniture are often left over at the end of a project and can become waste because there is no efficient way to find their next use.
We realized that the problem is typically lack of connections between contractors and information.
A contractor may have hundreds of unused doors sitting on one site, while another contractor nearby is purchasing the same materials new. We wanted to build a system that connects these two sides and reduce the waste.
The solution is “ReBuild”
What it does
ReBuild is a B2B platform for construction companies to manage, discover, and reuse surplus building materials.
A company can create projects, add surplus materials to its inventory, and publish them to a marketplace with information such as quantity, condition, price, location, and availability.
Other businesses can then search for materials based on their needs, request available inventory, and complete a transfer.
ReBuild also tracks the impact of each transaction, including material reused, value recovered, and estimated waste diverted.
How we built it
We built ReBuild as a web application.
The application provides interfaces for Inventory, payment, manages the relationships between companies, projects, materials, listings, and transactions, ... ect.
We designed a realistic B2B system rather than treating surplus materials as second-hand products.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Simulated payment type, inventory system, searching system and estimated economic benefit generated + avoided waste.
