Inspiration

One fine day, while I was having lunch in my cozy little studio apartment, I came across news about an iceberg and the impact that it might create in its dangerous tour. Since I hadn't been exposed to icebergs since Titanic, I didn't pay much attention to this. Later, around 10-15 days later I came across another article in BBC that explained in detail about this iceberg titled A68 and how it might wipe out the state of Georgia if it continues its existing path. I suddenly remembered my cousin in Georgia and immediately called him to warn about this but he didn't pay much heed to this. However, I wasn't the kind of a guy to leave things like that and I took it as my own task to bring a wider audience's attention to this monster that's lurking around Georgia. However, amongst my busy schedule, I couldn't find a suitable time to work towards this goal but then I came across the Postman API Hack via an email. Suddenly I made up my mind to utilize this opportunity and build something that has the potential to help a wider set of people than the close-set of friends that I have. I wasted no time and started out by including an API that has the ability to track the current location of this A68 iceberg, but then I realized that I can still utilize this chance to build a collection of API's that can make people realize the dangerous effects related to climate change rather than building a single API that can only help a handful of people in Georgia. And using this I am doing my bit to contribute towards the ever-changing climate and persuade other developers to join this movement.

What it does

We have made a workflow that contains a bunch of API collections related to the gauge of climate changes. Using this, you can get a measure of how drastically our climate is evolving and how soon can you act upon, before things get worse.

How we built it

  • First and foremost, we built the workflows by collecting a bunch of APIs that were already existent across different organizations and companies.
  • Adding to that we scraped some data off some websites that contributed to the goal of this project.

Challenges we ran into

  • Some of the APIs that contributed to our collective goal, were expensive, hence we had to scrap the idea of implementation and added some examples to show how our workflow will function with them.
  • The web crashed frequently while moving APIs from one collection to another

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As I'd already mentioned, this is my bit to the existing problem of the drastic climate changes. Though there have been several reports of the depleting ozone layer, the near extinction of a multitude of animals, and the frequent forest fires, 90% of the total population is still aware of this fact. Since I wanted to make changes to this and bring awareness to the people, I consider this as my first accomplishment in creating such a project. Apart from that, I was also able to gain a good amount of information about the APIs which are helping us do this and the resulting fixes that were made.

What we learned

  • The most priced learning was how to use the Postman platform and how to manage the workflows inside them.
  • Secondly, I was exposed to certain APIs that helped me gain a strong foot in the increasing climate change problem.
  • Another feature that I admire the most would be the Visualize feature available in Postman. This helped us implement the map tile relation.

What's next for Rebuild The Future

Rebuild the future will exist as long as climate changes exist. We hope that together we could build our world better and let this be the beginning of a collection where all the APIs regarding climate change be involved. In the future, we would like to make a difference by introducing APIs to existing websites and organizations that are aligned with our collective goal.
