REBUILD HUB

Our aim is to build a project to tackle climate change or environmental problems in general. We will create a mobile app developed in Flutter that will bridge the gap between waste donors and waste collectors and have a huge positive impact on collection of recyclable waste.

Inspiration

It is very essential that we understand our responsibility towards the environment.

There is a dire need to have an effective global waste management system and the best way to manage waste is recycling. Our project aims at boosting recycle of waste.

All over the world, companies are focusing deeply on the use of recycled raw materials for the development of their products.

The companies focused on collecting recyclable waste for the development of their products depend on big waste collection organizations for their supply, but what if instead of depending on these middle men who charge a hefty commission just to supply waste to the companies, we could cut off the middle man and make each individual household a point source for collection of such recyclable waste.

In this way, the company in search of recyclable raw material will have millions of sources instead of only a few waste collecting organizations.

Studies suggest the large quantities of waste available at the houses does not reach a recycling center.

Through this app, the conversion rate of the waste being recycled at the houses and workplaces will increase.

Our app will bridge the gap between waste donors and waste collectors.

What it does

Individuals, small organizations like housing societies can register as donors and companies in need of recyclable waste will register as donors.

The companies that register on the app will mention the type and amount of waste they need.

Each individual who claims possession of recyclable waste on the app will get monetary benefits in the form of a particular amount per kg or per pound of waste donated. Different prices will be set for different recyclable waste materials. Payment will only be received once the correct amount of waste reaches the target location.

Individuals can select the method through which they prefer to be paid while registering as donors.

After logging in, the individual can claim possession of waste. This waste can belong to a variety of categories like paper, plastic, e-waste etc.

The fixed rate for the waste will be shown to the user. The user will also be able to see the list of companies demanding waste of that category.

The user can decide to which company he wants to donate the waste. Once the waste is sold, the progress bar dynamically tracking the amount of waste needed by a company will change its value indicating to the users that 'x' amount of waste is still needed.

The donors will have to drop their recyclable waste at a specific location communicated to them through the app or a volunteer will pick up the waste from their location. Strict verification process will take place to cross check the amount of waste claimed and supplied. Payment will only be done post successful verification.

Challenges that we ran into

Learning Flutter from scratch.

Choosing and deciding the project topic was a tedious task.

Working remotely from our houses on the project without meeting in person due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Expanding the scope of the project from city to state and then to national level.

Deployment of embedded recommendation system using Machine Learning to suggest top and preferred buyers to the waste donors.

Tracking of donor and waste collection volunteer location using Google Maps API.

Automatic verification of waste stack image claimed by donor using advanced Computer Vision techniques.

Collaboration with multiple companies, NGO's and schools. Enhanced authentication protocol for donor and company.
