Boighor BD – Project Story

Inspiration

In Bangladesh, education is often stopped not by a lack of talent, but by a lack of access. Every year, thousands of students struggle to afford textbooks, exam guides, and reference books, while at the same time, many usable books remain unused after exams.

As students ourselves, we’ve seen juniors borrow books repeatedly, seniors store old books, and some students drop courses simply because buying new books was too expensive. This contrast inspired us to build Boighor BD — a platform where unused books can find new life and support students who need them most.

About the Project

Boighor BD is a 2nd-hand book selling and donation platform designed to make education affordable for Bangladeshi students.

The platform allows students to:

  • Sell used books at low prices
  • Donate books to students who cannot afford them
  • Buy textbooks filtered by class, subject, and board

Our goal is not profit — it’s impact. By encouraging reuse, Boighor BD reduces educational costs while promoting sustainability and community support.

How We Built It

We designed Boighor BD as a simple, scalable web application with an intuitive user experience:

Core Features

  • User authentication for buyers and admin
  • Book listing with images, description, price, and category
  • Option to mark books as Sell or Donate
  • Search and filter by class, subject, and board

We focused on building a working MVP that demonstrates real-world usability rather than an overly complex system.

What I Learned

This project helped me to learn:

  • How to design for social impact, not just functionality
  • Building a full-stack application from idea to deployment
  • Structuring a database for real-world use cases
  • Balancing simplicity with scalability
  • Collaborating and planning over a longer hackathon timeline

We also learned that even small technical solutions can create meaningful change when aligned with real problems.

Challenges We Faced

  • Designing a system that prevents misuse while remaining accessible
  • Keeping the platform beginner-friendly yet impactful
  • Managing image uploads and data consistency
  • Prioritizing features within limited time

Overcoming these challenges helped us refine our problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Impact & Future Vision

Boighor BD has the potential to:

  • Reduce educational expenses for thousands of students
  • Encourage a culture of sharing and reuse
  • Partner with NGOs and schools for verified donations
  • Expand into a mobile app and SMS-based access for rural areas

Our long-term vision is to make no student stop learning due to lack of books.
