Rearview

Inspiration

We were inspired by a friend who expressed concern about the rate of sexual assault on college campuses.

Notifies a person when someone is approach from behind

Rearview is a device that protects its user from assault by notifying them of people behind them. It also allows them to contact the authorities.

We used cloud technologies, Arduino, and 3D printing to manufacture the chassis.

A car being lost halfway through, and various hardware limitations.

Implementing such a complex system in a dorm room.

We learned how to use Arduino Ethernet shields.

Miniaturization, integration and a sleeker design.

I designed and built the hardware and camera mount.

I helped design the hardware. I also helped with the Python program.

Megan Novak
I desinged the arduinos code that read the data from the sensors, and published it to a web page (just a simple JSON document webserver). I also wrote the microcloud service that is used to send and recieve SMS, MMS, and Phone calls. I also wrote the python script that handles all of the automation and ties all the ends together.
