Inspiration
The rise of AI-generated and heavily filtered content made the internet feel less genuine. We were inspired to bring back the raw, authentic feeling of scrolling in 2016—when content felt more human, unpolished, and real.
What it does
AUTHENTIFY: Reals detects AI-generated or altered content and assigns an authenticity score with a confidence level. It also features “2016-ify,” which applies nostalgic filters, and a “2016 Feed” that prioritizes raw, real-style content.
How we built it
We built Reals using AI identification software to analyze media for signs of generation or manipulation. On the front end, we designed an intuitive UI with a bold #04FF00 theme and integrated filtering systems to create the 2016-style experience.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with accurately detecting AI-generated content and ensuring reliable confidence scores. Another challenge was transforming the user feed into a true “2016 experience” while filtering out modern-style content effectively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re especially proud of the UI/UX and the nostalgic feel of the platform. The design successfully captures a 2016 aesthetic while still feeling modern and functional.
What we learned
We learned a lot about interface design, user experience, and how impactful unique color choices can be. We also gained experience working with AI detection tools and their limitations.
What's next for Reals
Next, we want to improve AI detection accuracy, personalize authenticity scoring, and expand the platform into a browser extension. We also plan to refine the 2016 feed and explore partnerships to promote transparency in digital content.
