Inspiration

We were seeing a ton of astounding information on the dire wolf, an animal supposedly "brought back from the dead", flooding social media over the past couple of days. The comments were all filled with people frustrated, scared and crudely sharing their takes on the project dire wolf, due to its nature of "playing god" by seemingly spawning animals into existence. A reasonable fear.

However, Colossal did not create an entirely new animal through inorganic genetic growth, but edited a very small portion of genes (<0.1%) from a grey wolf, a related species to dire wolves.

It was only after Hank Green posted an informational Youtube video did I actually learn the truth behind this project and how my fears were targeted to an issue that had not existed. How people's opinions were a mute point, because they were based on distilled information that was false.

This should not be the case. Media that is easy to consume misinformation, should be as easy to debunk without the help of specialists like Hank Green. It is within our agency to debunk that which is misleading, but sometimes we just need a little help.

What it does

Realm provides an easy to access way to quickly debunk information you may think to be true, or even claims you may think to be false. Simply input a Youtube URL or submit, in a text-box, the content on which you want to fact-check and Realm will take care of it for you. Backed by OpenAI 4.0 Turbo API, Realm not only has the power to give you easy to access summaries and areas where your submitted content may be misleading, but also provide sources to back its claims up. It will also give you an accuracy score for overall trust and credibility in your submissions.

How we built it

Utilizing React and Typescript we made a simplistic front end, not to intimidate new users and to keep the purpose clear. For the Back End we took advantage of Youtube's transcript API as well as OpenAI 4.0 Turbo API to accurately parse and vet your media content.

Challenges we ran into

Multiple back end issues with GPT and Youtube.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Clean and aesthetic UI as well as a powerful backend.

What we learned

Building a full stack website, with both back end and front end that we would personally utilize in every day life.

What's next for Realm

Scaling up to multiple other forms of content
