Inspiration

We did some research into the adverse impacts of the abuse of generative AI, especially pertaining to video content (i.e. deepfakes) and decided to create an interactive web experience with an educational angle to inform users on how to avoid being deceived by AI-powered misinformation.

Given that the hackathon happened to start on Valentine's Day, we came up with a storyline to incorporate into the app for the purposes of immersion. Although this storyline itself is fictional, it is loosely based on some of the real-life incidents we discovered in our research about the dangers of abusive uses of generative AI. The UI serves as a dashboard for the legal software that the user, the Detective, utilizes to log progress on the case of an accusation of romantic infidelity.

What it does

The Detective can upload a video as "evidence" for the case, this video is then processed and analyzed for timestamps which appear the most suspicious for usage of generative AI technology.

How we built it

The backend is a Flask app using TwelveLabs API, the frontend is a Vue app!

Challenges we ran into

In the grand scheme of things, we're all hackathon noobs (it is either our 1st or 2nd ever hackathon experience among our team) and are not super used to working under such an intense time limit. Aside from running into error messages and bugs while working with tools that we've never used before, a major challenge was just learning how to prioritize aspects for our presentation considering the time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of going outside of our comfort zone and taking the risk to try out completely new technologies that we didn't have experience with before in order to build this app. Hackathons can be an incredibly valuable opportunity for learning and demonstrating new skills, and I think that we each will take away something of value from this experience.

What we learned

Aside from learning how to use specific tools and frameworks that we've never used before, we learned how to demonstrate our creativity and develop an immersive and interactive web experience.
