Inspiration

According to a publication in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, 86% of ER cases with documented delays were due to system issues such as lack of staff and room availability. Dr. Shomali further recounted that during his time as a resident in the ER, he witnessed his colleagues struggling to maintain efficiency in the ER because they didn't know patients' ETA and had to update incoming patient records manually after ambulance-transport.

What it does

He was enthusiastic about our idea to create a 'dashboard' that tracks ambulance location and patient conditions in real time.

What I learned

  • The BIOEs on the team experienced first-hand how web apps are created from start to finish and took a stab at CSS and PHP.

  • First time implementing Google Maps API and geolocation

What's next for Real-Time Tracking of Incoming ER Patients

  • Making the Risk Factor questionnaire more thorough

  • Testing our Proof of Concept design and implementing test results via modifications
