Inspiration
The stock market moves incredibly fast, and having real-time data is essential for investors and traders. We wanted to create a solution that allows users to track live stock prices instantly without relying on outdated data or refreshing pages repeatedly. Our goal was to build a tool that is accurate, responsive, and user-friendly for everyone from beginners to experienced traders.
What it does
Our Real-Time Stock Price Tracker provides: ✅ Live stock prices updated continuously without page reloads. ✅ Search functionality to look up any company or ticker symbol. ✅ Price change indicators (green for gain, red for loss). ✅ Historical data visualization with charts. ✅ Custom watchlist to monitor selected stocks in one place. ✅ Responsive design for mobile and desktop users.
How we built it
We developed the project using: Frontend: React.js with Tailwind CSS for a clean and responsive UI. Backend: Node.js and Express for handling API requests. Data Source: WebSocket API from financial data providers (e.g., Alpha Vantage, Yahoo Finance, or Finnhub) for real-time updates. Database: MongoDB for storing user preferences and watchlists. Deployment: Hosted on Vercel for frontend and Render/Heroku for backend services
Challenges we ran into
Handling Real-Time Data: Implementing WebSocket connections efficiently without performance issues. API Rate Limits: Many stock APIs have strict limitations; finding a reliable, real-time source was tricky UI Responsiveness: Making the UI update instantly without flicker during price changes. Data Accuracy: Ensuring that the data shown is always up-to-date and synchronized with API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully integrated live stock price streaming using WebSockets. Built a fast and responsive UI that updates without refreshing the page. Implemented a custom watchlist feature for personalized tracking. Designed real-time charts to visualize stock trends dynamically.
What we learned
How to implement real-time data streaming using WebSockets. The importance of optimizing API calls and handling rate limits. How to create a scalable architecture that can handle multiple users simultaneously. Enhanced our knowledge in React state management for real-time updates.
What's next for Real time stock price Tracker
Add AI-driven predictions based on historical data and sentiment analysis. Push notifications for price alerts and stock news. Mobile App version for iOS and Android. Portfolio management feature to track overall investment performance. Dark mode and more UI customization options for a better user experience.
