Τhe problem
Many patients present mild symptoms of COVID-19 which may escalate at any given moment. If there was a way to check the oxygen saturation value in their blood remotely, health personnel could have a clear indication before their symptoms are aggravated. For instance, when the oxygen saturation value is less than 95-96%, the patient must be transferred to the hospital for examinations and care.
What it does
Prevention silent hypoxia with SpO2 remote monitoring - alerting IoT device for patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus and persons with cough, fatigue and fever. ( https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/929309 )
How I built it
BLE to WiFi hardware, C++, Node, WebSockets
Impact of the solution
Direct screening of patients who need to visit the hospital, thus reducing the workload for cases that may stay at home. It is simple and practical and can be realised immediately. There are no intermediary steps to take such as configuration for patients’ mobile phones. It is absolutely crucial to have access to real time monitoring of patients so as to reduce death rates if they reach the hospital at an advantaged stage already.
Positive outcome
Sense of safety for the patient. Real time clinical monitoring for the values we have access to. Prevention of escalation, thus risk reduction.
