Inspiration

I've always been fascinated by the energy of live football, observing the "wow" moments when a big play shifts momentum and fans go wild. I wanted to capture that energy in data, and show how it can be turned into real business action. The idea was simple: what if we could identify the most exciting plays in real time, and immediately trigger fan engagement through Salesforce?

How I built it

I started with NFL play-by-play data, then created an Excitement Score using factors such as yards gained, scoring, and expected points added (EPA). In Tableau Next, I built dashboards to highlight game flow, drill into specific plays, and spotlight the top five moments. The final layer was Salesforce Flow: when a judge clicks a big play in Tableau, it automatically creates a fan outreach task or campaign in Salesforce. This turned analytics into direct fan engagement action.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was connecting all the parts (Tableau, Salesforce, and real football data) in a way that was smooth and beginner-friendly. I had to learn how to set up input variables in Flow so Tableau could pass play details, and troubleshoot why URL actions weren't populating correctly at first. Another hurdle was balancing the technical build with the storytelling, making sure the dashboards weren't just informative, but also exciting and intuitive for someone who may not live in football stats every day.
