Inspiration

We use so many platforms to chat daily and always wondered how they work, so we tried to explore web sockets, APIs, real-time applications, etc, and tried to build a simple chat application.

What it does

It helps you chat in real-time by creating a room_id, and room_name, and since people with room_id can only enter a room so chats are private.

How we built it

We used node, express.js, and socket.io for the backend and used React.js to create the front end.

Challenges we ran into

  1. we recently learned node and express and applied it for the first time to create something.
  2. we learned about real-time applications and sockets, APIs, etc.
  3. We learned react.js in the last 2 days only and used it to build this basic simple UI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of learning so many things in the last few days and actually applying them to create something. We were happy when the chat worked in real-time and also uploaded to Devpost since many times we just registered but could not submit a project and felt stuck.

What we learned

  1. Applying Backend for the first time, all our previous projects did not have any backend.
  2. Learned about real-time applications, web sockets, APIs, etc.
  3. Learned react.js fundamentals in the last 2 days

What's next for Real-Time-Chat-App

  1. We will learn Databases to implement databases so messages are saved.
  2. A better UI
  3. Help users create their own multiple rooms
  4. audio, video chat, and file sharing methods and try to add some more good essential features.
