Inspiration

Real Learning was inspired by a simple problem: people are often expected to perform well at work before they have had a safe place to practice.

Interviews, customer complaints, supervisor conversations, workplace conflict, mistakes, and first-day decisions can be stressful—especially for young people, first-time workers, career changers, and workforce-development participants.

I created Real Learning to let people learn by doing before the real moment happens.

What it does

Real Learning is an AI job-simulation platform that places users inside realistic workplace scenarios.

Users practice situations such as:

  • Job interviews
  • Customer-service interactions
  • Supervisor conversations
  • Workplace conflict
  • Handling mistakes
  • Professional communication
  • First-day job decisions

The platform gives users immediate guidance so they can understand what worked, what could improve, and how to respond more effectively.

How we built it

I developed Real Learning as a working web-based MVP.

The platform combines structured workplace scenarios, interactive user responses, AI-supported coaching, and a feedback system. The experience is designed to feel practical and simple rather than like a traditional classroom lesson.

The project was built and managed through Replit, with Supabase used to support stored feedback and application data.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was turning complicated workplace situations into simulations that feel realistic without becoming confusing.

I also had to build within a limited budget, recover and organize project files, improve the feedback experience, and keep the platform simple enough for first-time users.

Another challenge was making Real Learning useful for multiple audiences, including workforce programs, community colleges, youth-employment organizations, and employers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I built Real Learning into a working MVP instead of leaving it as an idea. The platform now gives users a practical way to rehearse workplace situations, receive immediate guidance, and build confidence before facing those situations in real life.

I am also proud that Real Learning was developed with limited resources while still reaching the point where it can be demonstrated to workforce organizations, colleges, youth-employment programs, and potential pilot partners.

What we learned

I learned that effective career readiness requires more than information. People need repetition, judgment, confidence, and a safe place to make mistakes.

I also learned that AI works best when it supports a structured learning experience with clear scenarios, immediate feedback, and practical next steps.

What's next for Real Learning

The next step is to secure paid pilot partners and test Real Learning with workforce-development organizations, community colleges, youth-employment programs, and employers.

Future development will include more job-specific simulations, adaptive coaching, participant progress tracking, organization dashboards, cohort reporting, and measurable job-readiness outcomes.
